The boats are being built at Metal Shark’s Jeanerette shipyard and will replace older fire boats currently operated by the department.
The county has chosen the “50 Defiant X” fire boat, a 50-foot, welded aluminum monohull vessel with a proven hull form and a specialized arrangement optimized for firefighting.
