The strings of plastic balls above Ste-Catherine Street were initially pink. First put up in 2011, the rows of balls that decorate the Village have been the hallmark feature of one of downtown's only pedestrian walkways. In 2017, the art installation became a rainbow. Members of the community hand-strung the balls, essentially participating in a large-scale communal craft project in the streets. The street is closed to cars from May to September and the space is used to host outdoor cafes and concerts.
