The January 2007 North American ice storm was a severe ice storm that affected a large swath of North America from the Rio Grande Valley to New England and southeastern Canada, starting on January 11 and lasting until January 16. In early December 2007 Oklahoma received a significant amount of freezing rain that accumulated on trees, power lines and pretty much everything. It was when up to 21 inches of snow fell on the northeastern side of the state, and wind gusts were found to reach up to 40 miles per hours during the heart of the storm. Temperatures were at first above 70 °F (21 °C) but suddenly on Friday March 3 and it suddenly got cold, below freezing, and ice started forming in the late evening.
